Big decrease in download speeds....

Hi folks.
For no apparent reason, since yesterday morning, if I try and download
anything, I'm stuck at around 15Kb/s. For a broadband connection, I think
you'll agree that this is absurd, so I can only assume that there's another
bloody gremlin somewhere in the system, putting the brakes on. Trouble is,
I don't know how to tackle this problem, and get my download speeds back up
to somewhere near normal again.

Anybody got any ideas?
Many thanks in advance.
Cass

I am a big believer in deleting browser history, cookies , and files.
Then running spyware and antivirus scans, if a system slows up. A free
program ( CCCleaner ) is also good.

First thing to try always is rebooting your modem and router (if you have a
router).

1. Unplug the router. (You can do this from the router connection, usually
easier than at the wall!)

2. Unplug the modem.

3. Wait about a minute.

4. Plug the modem back in. Wait until all its lights are back on.

5. Plug the router back in.

Now try. If all is well, great. If not, see if another computer has the
issue. If not, you have narrowed down the troubleshooting to just one
machine. If yes, then call your broadband provider.
