So recovery console is not proceeding to the command prompt for you to
repair the BCD, right? When you can see the hard drive, how about connecting
your hard disk to another machine to back up your files and reinstalling it
or restoring the machine by using an image? Sometimes you can set up a
synchronization point of your frequently modified file to a network place so
you don't have to worry about your data during restoring. There might be a
third party program you can buy and fix it for you without the restoring.
But the installation will not take long if there are not lots of
customizations on your computer.

The Load Driver button is for you to load a driver for your hard disk in
case you have a specific SCSI or other types of hard disk that Vista may not
have the right driver for. If the startup repair is not replacing the bcd
file, maybe the file is corrupted. If you don't want to reinstall, you can
copy the BCD files from another machine to a USB flash drive or a CD/DVD.
Then from the command line of recovery console, you can copy it to the hard
disk.
Under Recovery Console command line interface, type "diskpart" and press
enter. Then type "list volume" to see the driver letter assigned for your
USB driver or CD/DVD. You can also unplug your hard disk and plug directly
to another machine and copy the BCD over.

Also, did you try system restore. You may have a decent backup to restore.
Vista create a restore point for you automatically when you install any new
software. If the bootrec /rebuildbcd command did find something, you may try
BCDEdit to see whether you can add something there. You can see the detailed
parameters by using BCDEdit /? under recovery console command line
interface.
