I have a new HP Pavilion laptop. The bios display when booting up shows for
about 2 seconds. Much too short a time to comprehend. Is there a way to
increase the time so I can read the damn thing? My other computers allow a
change in display time for that.

Hi, ha.

The BIOS runs the computer - not the other way around. And that display
appears AND disappears LOOONG before Windows even begins to load. So
there's nothing that Vista can do to control that.

I never had an HP computer, so I don't know how to get into its BIOS
settings. But I do know that a Vista newsgroup is NOT the place to ask this
question. You need to find an HP newsgroup, or - better yet - the HP
Support page, or - BEST yet: Read the manual that came with your computer.

HOW do THEY do it?

Ehlo ha,
Having Pavilion myself, I do not believe there is such function. Which information
are you looking for exactly?

Everything that's there is in the BIOS. New, fast machines, are, well,
fast. So, if you want to read it, go into the BIOS and read it and much
more.

So, you have two seconds to touch the <Pause/Break> button.

What your BIOS does at startup happens before Windows is loaded, so
Windows can't possibly control it. But you can stop the process by
hitting the "Pause" key on the upper right of your keyboard, and
continue by hitting any key. You'll have to be quick to catch it
right!
