I activated Bitlocker on my new Lenovo Thinkpad X61 Tablet running Vista
Ultimate. It ran fine for about a week. Then one day on reboot I got the
black screen with an error message saying

“...Settings for the following boot application have changed since Bitlocker
was enabled…”

and it listed winload.exe as the offending application.

I used my USB drive to boot, and tried several times disabling and
re-enabling bitlocker to no avail. I am still getting the error message at
each boot up.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated-

You should turn off BitLocker, and try a "Startup repair" or other available
recovery option.

You can also check for this update on your system
A software update is available for versions of Windows Vista that include
the Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption feature:

That document lists three updates that Vista Ultimate needs before SP1, and I
checked, all three have been installed already. (But not SP1 yet).
