BITS 2.0 update fails - checked (debug) vs. free (retail) versions

Fails with following error: KB842773 Setup cannot update a checked (debug)
system with a free (retail) version of KB842773, or vice versa.

Fresh Windows XP installed from CD created from MSDN DVD.

Hi Lori,

It sounds to me like you've installed the checked/debug version of XP
instead of the retail version (the retail version may be available on one of
your MSDN DVDs, if that's what you were intending to install). Information
about the checked build is available here
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...948416.xml.asp

The update that you're attempting to install (and all updates available from
Windows Update, for that matter) is for the retail build, not the checked
build. I don't know if there are equivalent updates available for the
checked build........you may want to check MSDN for that information.

Thanks, Patti. I think that's exactly what's happened. We had troubles with
the OS for the same reason.

The checked/debug version of the OS would definitely perform differently
than the retail build of the OS.
