BITS 2.0 + Windows Installer 3.1 RC = Fail to load profile

Hello,

I recently installed a WSUS server which forced the install of the following
components on many various servers:
Update for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 and
WinHTTP 5.1 (KB842773)
Windows Installer 3.1 Release Candidate

Now my Windows 2003 servers run fine after these install but my Windows 2000
servers ran into a BIG problem:
Whenever any domain admin tries to log in either locally/remotely they get
the error:
"Windows cannot load your profile. Please increase the registry size."
Then another message that says:
"Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the
default profile for the system:
DETAIL: - Insufficient system resources exists to complete the requested
service"

Windows eventually logs the user in using the default profile but event ID
1000 pops up frequently indicating various services cannot be loaded and
such.
This happens to 4/5 different Windows 2000 servers with and without SP4.
They never happened before and even if I tried increasing the registry size
I eventually get the same error messages.

HELP PLEASE
Ben

"Binh Tran",

I am very sorry you are running into this issue. Could you try uninstalling the
update from one of the Windows 2000 machines? I realize there may be trouble
here, given that the Domain Admin cannot load their profile. Could you instead
try to login with a local administrator account and try to uninstall KB842773?

Let us know if this changes anything for this machine, once you have the update
uninstalled. Does the domain administrator profile load properly again?

Sincerely,

Pat Walters [MSFT]
