Same thing happened to me. I am using Windows XP Pro so
these are steps I took. Make sure that the BITS did
install by going to Windows update (v5) and selecting
view installation history. If there and listed as
successful download, then go to start/control
panel/automatic updates/ and disable it. Close out if it.
Icon will go away. Then go back to start/control
panel/automatic updates and enable it again. Reboot and
icon should be gone. Go back to WU to make sure all is
okay. Hope this helps.
