Hi All,

I am having trouble downloading any updates from the WSUS server. I am able
to synchronise with MS upstream server but not able to download any updates.
If copy the URL from the error below I am able to download the update so am
assuming that it isnt a firewall issue. Any help at all would be greatly
appreciated.

Cheers

Rod.

Error wsusservice.16093 ContentSyncAgent.JobError Download error:
http://www.download.windowsupdate.co...288b0d27f6.exe
failed in download: (-2145386477) The server does not support the necessary
HTTP protocol. Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) requires that
the server support the Range protocol header.

Hi,

Please post WSUS questions to the new newsgroup
microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services

WebNews link to the WSUS newsgroup:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...pdate_services

Or use a newsgroup reader (default Outlook Express) to access
this new group:

Clicking on this link should open this group in OE:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...pdate_services

Some info about using OE as a newsreader:

Setting up Outlook Express Newsreader

A simple setup of Outlook Express as a newsreader
http://www.rickrogers.org/setupoe.htm

And instructions from Bert Kinney MVP DTS:

How to configure Outlook Express for reading Microsoft news messages:
These steps may differ slightly with different versions of Outlook Express.

1. In Outlook Express, click Accounts on the Tools menu.

2. In the Internet Accounts dialog box, click Add, and then click News.

3. In the Display Name box, type a friendly name for the newsgroup, and then
click Next.

4. In the E-mail Address box, type the e-mail address for the account you are
using (for example, see Tip 5), and then click Next.

5. In the News (NNTP) Server box, type msnews.microsoft.com - No Password
or logon required.

6. Click Close.

7. When asked if you want to download newsgroups, select yes.

To subscribe to Internet newsgroups in Outlook Express:

1. On the Tools menu, click Newsgroups.

2. In the list of newsgroups, click a newsgroup and then click Subscribe.

To search for a specific newsgroup, type a word or part of a newsgroup name
(in this case type Win98 ) in the Display Newsgroups Which Contain box.

3. After downloading the 300 newest headers (300 is the default setting) go to
Tools - Options - Read, and set "Get 300 headers at a time" to 1000, the
maximum. See Tip 3.

Tip 1. To see replies to the original post click on the Plus Sign (+) to the
left of the post.

Tip 2. Newsgroups you have already subscribed to are denoted by a
newspaper icon to the left of the newsgroup name.

Tip 3. This will allow the headers missed from the last visit to be downloaded
up to 1000. This setting will vary depending on how busy that particular
newsgroup is, and the amount of time from the last visit. Some newsgroups see
one or two posts per day while others such as WindowsXP.general see upward of
1000 per day.

Tip 4. Since you don't see the full name of the newsgroups when you download,
hover your cursor over the line between Newsgroups and Description on the
title line. Once it changes to a double arrow, left click and hold and drag
the
line to the right until you can see more of the newsgroups.

Tip 5. A functional email address is not necessary. To reduce Spam a fake
email address can be used (example: ) or a mangled so a reader
can figure it out and reply (example: johndoe@-NoSpam-aol.com.
Note: the mangle should be place on the domain side (right of the @) of the
email address.
