There are black block lines running through the screen at log on and at
different times during play on the laptop.... i was not the one to install
vista and everytime you log in you need to tell the computer to start windows
normally....is there a fix or a download i can install to fix these for vista
or do i just need to wipe and start all over....i tell you when kids get in
those computer classes they shouldn't be allowed to touch anything until they
are completely done with school....I know very little of vista just what i
have been forced to learn because some bright college kid decided to delete
IE from Windows XP and it ended up causing a whole lot of problems with XP so
they installed Vista Ultimate....am A+certifed but my strong suit is
hardware...

It may be that the display driver is buggy. Have you tried downloading
and installing an updated (Vista certified) driver?

You never get a hardware driver from microsoft; they causes probs as they are
normally earlier versions.

You either get a Graphics Card driver from the Graphics Card or
Motherboard's or Computer Manufacturer's website.

You can run software such as Sandra Lite or Fresh Diagnose to find mobo's
manufacturer, as it probably would be onboard graphics being a laptop.

Finding driver isn't all that hard, with a little common sense.

Who manufactured your laptop? Asus ('ASUSTeK Computer'
(http://www.asus.com.tw))? HP ('HP United States - Computers, Laptops,
Servers, Printers & more' (http://www.hp.com))? Sony? You'll only look
on Microsoft's website if you're looking for the drivers to a Microsoft
hardware product.

The manufacturer website will be the place to start. From there, you
can go to their support page and easily lookup or search for your
particular model.

It woud appear then that your computer is not shutting down properly.
Is your Start->Shutdown button set to Shutdown or Sleep?

- Open Control Panel
- Click "Hardware and Sound"
- Click "Power Options"
- For your currently selcted power plan, click "Change Plan Settings"
- Click "Change advanced power settings"
- Click the "+" next to "Power button and lid" to expand it
- Click the "+" next to "Start menu power button" to expand it
- If the setting is "Sleep", change it to "Shut down"
- Click Apply
- Click OK
- Close control panelIf the Start->Power button was previously set to Sleep, it was Orange.
If set to Shut Down, it would be Red in appearance.

See if that helps.
