So I got a new desktop PC with Vista Ultimate (32 bit) last week and I'm
being driven mad by Vista - Every time I startup my computer it'll get
past the 'progress bar' and then just stall on a black screen. The HDD
light shows activity but nothing ever happens.
Eventually, I manage to get it up and running - either by using last
known good config. or sometimes even starting normally.. sometimes I
have to go into safe mode with networking and then restart and it
works.. sometimes I have to restart lots of times and other times just
once.
I have never experienced this problem if I'm already into Vista and I'm
forced to restart - only when my computer is off and I first turn it on.
As you can imagine, all this restarting is getting very tedious. I've
looked for solutions and it appears the black screen is a very common
problem.. although most of the problems appeared to be to do with
display drivers on laptops.. I of course have downloaded the latest
nvidia drivers but to no avail.
My system specs are:
Intel e6700 2 x 2.66ghz
Asus P5N32-E SLI+ Mobo
4 Gb Ram
2 x GeForce 8600GT
SB X-Fi Extreme Audio
Any help or suggestions appreciated.. although I'm beginning to think
this is a lost cause..
