Blank blue screen NOT BSOD

About 5% of the time, a recording with have a blank blue screen, not a BSOD,
with normal audio. Sometimes the video will re-appear 2 minutes in the
recording but most of the time it won't. I have tried to update the driver
for the tuner but none is available (HP ExpressCard Analog TV Tuner). As far
as the other drivers, everything appears to have the latest driver available.
The video card is an ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M IGP. It's an HP Pavilion laptop
dv5000 (5140ca) with 2GB RAM, AMD Turion ML37 processor 2.0GHz. A search on
the internet has not turned out any solutions. Any ideas? thanks in advance.

You left out some important items.

What version of MC (XP, Vista, 7)?

If XP, what DVD decoder are you using? (or is you are using a custom decoder
in Vista or 7)

Does it ever happen while watching Live TV?

Always happen or is this something new, if new, has anything been
changed/updated/added?

It is xp media center. I am using the decoder provided with the pc. This
issue has been going on for about six months or so. It happens only with
recorded tv. I can't think of any changes that were made to the unit that
could be reversed. This machine is used almost exclusively as a media center,
hardly any other programs.

Are you in the U.S., that timeframe would coincide with the digital
changeover last June. Don't know what that would have to do with it, but
interesting.

You could try changing the decoder just to see it that helps, the nVidia
basic Pure Platinum one is free for 30 days ($20 to buy). Make sure you have
a way to reinstall whatever came with the laptop, so if that doesn't help,
you can go back. It may be downloadable from HP or buried on the setup
disks.

You can check the decoder with this tool.

You don't have to buy a endoder/decoder to try a different one.
There are trials of most of the DVD player software available.

Just download a trial and try one.
