Hello silver hair,
Unless I misundertstood what you said, you don't have to do anything to
those 2 programs. When they are " blanked out ", it means they are Not
chosen to run in start up. Conversely if any programs you see with
checkmarks in front of them, they are set to run on start up.

What buttons are blanked out where? Please post back with a better
description of the issue, remembering that we can't see your computer.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/555375 - How to Ask a Question

In the meantime, here is how to manage your Startup:

Start Orb>Start Search box>msconfig [enter]

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation,
type the password, or click Continue. Then see what is on the Startup tab.
You don't need to restart immediately, but the next time you do you'll get
a dialog saying you've used the Utility. Usually in Vista this will be
blocked by Windows Defender and you'll need to allow it so you can then
tick the box that says in effect, "don't bother me about this again".

Important - Do not use the System Configuration Utility to stop processes.
Instead, use Start>Run>services.msc [enter] and do not stop any services
unless you really, really know what you're doing.

The free Autoruns program is very useful for managing your Startup -

hello and thank you both
what a run after I come back from work
I open the mail and click on the link to see your answers all I get is a
white page, empty
I go the other way to discussion group I only get a part of the last posts
from today
I did system restore back to yesterday now it seems to be ok
the bottons I 'm talking about
In Windows defender
Software Eplorer
in Startup Programms it shows 3 bottons, Remove Disable and Enable,
bottom right, they are all blanked out, I clicked show for all users and the
bottens unblanked
it never occured to me befor, here is only 1 user.
and there was all so a lot of flickering on the screen, there seemed to be
resetting going on, at first it seemes better now, will see, as for managing
these programms
that run the computer, I'll be care full with that now. I did click much
befor, I ended up
paying for System Recovery to factory settings
I'll study this info first, my question hase been answered, thanks
But I have new question ?
Programms listed under Startup Programms
in Windows defender, Software Explorer
do they not run when the computer starts?

It's impossible to tell from your post what's really going on. It sounds
like your computer is infected and/or is possibly having hardware issues
(video card?). I already told you how to manage your Startup, but here's
even more information on it:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista -
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;929135

And for virus/malware removal:

Based on your posts, it would probably be best for you to take the machine
to a competent computer professional (not your local equivalent of
BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). I say that not meaning to offend you in any
way but rather simply to be practical.
