blank startup window

Can anybody help? When I open my startup window the right pane is
blank. There used to be the icons of my most frequently used programs
there but now I have to type in the program name in order to access
it.
Any ideas on how to get my icons back?

Are you talking about the Recent Items menu?

If this isn't showing, right click the Start Button and select Properties.
In the Privacy sectrion, place a check mark in both of those options.
