Block access to Startup menu??

Due to the extra level of security, I've learnt to live with the
endless UAC warnings.

However, it seems that any program can ingratiate itself into the
Startup menu without either my or Vista's permission. Even after
deselecting the item from the menu, they crop up again.

The worst offenders are Quicktime, Realplayer, iTunes, Acrobat
and Google Toolbar.

I'd like to see this UAC warning:

"A program (Adobe Acrobat) wants to place an entry into the Startup
Menu so it can constantly nag you about available updates on bootup.

Allow - Block - Remember this action"

Is there a way the user can block these entries? Perhaps via the
Registry?

Cheers

Graham

Start>Accessories>Run> msconfig >take what you want out of startup and have a
selective startup.
And alter how security notifies you about it.

Also, when installing, READ what the installation options are re startup!

Thanks Mick,

I've done that, and it works with most programs, but Adobe Updater
always comes back, requiring a new selective start/reboot. This is
what I'd like to block permanently.

Hi,

If you are comfortable with the registry then you can go directly there.

Start - regedit.exe

Then go to

HKLocal Machine - Software - Microsoft - Windows - CurrentVersion - Run and
Runonce.

Also

HKCurrent User - Software - Microsoft - Windows - CurrentVersion - Run and
Runonce.

I delete pretty much everything with the exception of the systray and
Windows Defender and my firewall client.

Cheers,
Lara
