Had to uninstall SP2 as it killed my VPN. I ran your XPSP2BlockerTools.exe
to keep it from coming. Now this morning autoupdate downloaded the dumb
thing yet again and is begging me to install it.

1. How can I get rid of the pesky logo?
2. Why didn't your XPSP2BlockerTools.exe stop it?
3. How can I get rid of all the files that slowed my computer to a crawl
while they were downloading?

Did you run the XPSP2Blocker.exe file "inside" XPSP2BlockerTools.exe?

To avoid that Windows Updates/Automatic Updates tries to install
SP2 at all (up to 12. April 2005):

Toolkit to Temporarily Block Delivery of Windows XP SP2 to a PC
Through Automatic Updates and Windows Update
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Run the XPSP2BlockerTools.exe in the link above. It will extract
several files to the folder you specify.

Then run XPSP2Blocker.exe to activate the blockage (it will create
the registry value described in the link above).

This will not block you from installing SP2 from e.g. the SP2 CD
later on...

If SP2 have started to download (or are ready to install), and you
want to get rid of the files without installing SP2, clean out the
Download folder (WU5's temporary download folder) located here:

%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows)

Thanks for the response. I hadn't run the executable inside the Blocker Zip,
I ran the .cmd file. Now I ran the .exe and got a "Action Completed" DOS
window.

As for deleting the downloaded files (yes, they had all downloaded and it
was begging me to install), can I kill ALL the folders under
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\ ? There are several and I don't see
anything that would identify them as SP2.

Hi

As I wrote in my first post, cleaning out the Download folder should
be sufficient (you will not recognise anything as SP2 in there).
