Blocked Website not allowed in Vista

      01-01-2008
My employer has a website we can log into to check our email remotely. When
using WinXP SP2 at home (not my comp, my son's) I type in the url and it
brings up a security certificate problem and then I can say continue to
website and it brings up the login screen.

I cannot get to this point on my Vista home machine or Vista laptop. Our IT
people only support XP and are not willing to help out.

I turned off everything I could think of including firewall, defender,
pop-up blocker, etc. Basically everything I could find. Still, IE will not
bring up the login screen or even the window that says the website has a
problem with it's security certficate. The website is mail.horrocks.com.

I guess I'm starting to get really annoyed with some of these issues. I've
already turned off User Account Control because of it's non-stop nagging.

I have Vista Home Premium and is currently updated with Windows Update.

Any help that can be provided for this issue would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm seeing the same behavior here, I don't believe this is any sort of
security issue locally on your machine. It seems more like the server
simply isn't responding to the request, otherwise it would actually connect.

I'll try a few other things and post back.

Checking via http://www.mxtoolbox.com/index.aspx reveals that there are no
MX records for horrocks.com, which could help explain it. I ran a check for
mail.horrocks.com and www.horrocks.com. Both negative for MX records.

That can cause problems with mail delivery, it won't however cause any
problems accessing a web-based email site with a browser.

Oops, my bad. My braincell has yet to recover from New Year ;-)

IE7 in Vista and Server 2008 just will not connect to that site. I wonder
if the OP was using IE6 in XP?

Same with IE7 here. I was able (after a looooong pause) to get to the
web page with FireFox...

But this probably really isn't a Vista issue. It's just a matter of
your employer's IT department configuring their GroupWise server to
accept connections from a browser other than IE6.

It is a very slow server, but I was able to access it using Firefox
2.0. The correct URL is https://mail.horrocks.com/gw/webacc

Have you tried looking on Novell's GroupWise support sites for
potential solutions/work-arounds? Novell is often slow to often support
to newer versions of Windows and/or Internet Explorer, but a lot of
people do find solutions in their support forums.
