blocking email

I have an SBS version 5.2 sp2
exchange Version: 6.5.7638.1
An automatically generated report gets created when we run a report
it will not go to any of our internal email accounts however,
other emails from domain @yyy.com have no issues getting through.
if I have the report send it to my comcast or hotmail account the email
comes through fine.
I've looked at the outlook blocked senders list and not there, and I've
added it to the safe senders list, still nothing. I've rebooted the pc's and
server.

Hi:

Not sure, becuase I don't know how the mail is generated. It sounds like
the sending mail server is internal to your domain, and cannot get dns.
Try or just username. That is,
or whatever your extension is, or just john.

Hello Dave,

Thanks for your post and Larry's input.

Does the blocking reprot mail issue just occur? Has the report ever worked before?

To troubleshoot this issue, at this point, I would like to provide some suggestions:

1. Please open SBS console and locate to "Monitoring and Reporting". Click the "Change server status settings" option and check remove the old report and create a new one with the
as email recipient.

2. Please open SBS console and locate to "Monitoring and Reporting". Click "Setup Monitoring Reports and Alerts" and then select "reinstall Monitoring status". Follow and finish the wizard, select
as email recipient too.

3. If the issue persists that the above defined recipient still cannot receive the report email, then please follow the steps in below Message Tracking article to track all the mail flow of recipient and
check whether the email has been sent to that user or not.

If the report email has been sent but the recipient didn't received, it should be a mail transport issue. Otherwise, if the report email has not been sent or generated, it should be a corrupted Monitoring and
Report issue. Please track it and we can perform further steps according to the Message Tracking results.

Hope this helps. Also, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.

It's not internal, comes from a vendor's server.

Hi Dave:

So a program out side of your office (remote office) sends an email to one
of your users addressed as:

(or org or whatever) and it is not received by said user.

Your original message referenced only . Can I assume that
is the reply address of the robot sending program? Or is this the reply
address of an actual user in that remote office?

Does the sender have any way to monitor ndr's? Since it is a robot sender
it probably does not have a mail box.

If a user at that same remote office location sent a normal email message
to the same "" as the robot program, does it come to the
users mailbox? Do you have anyway to examine the headers of the robot program
message to determine if it is referencing correctly?

And did I understand you to say that if you change the address to which robot
program sends the report to a hotmail or comcast address that works, or if
a user on the remote domain sends a standard email message, that works?
Or both?

There are several reasons why you might see this, top of the list is that
the sender cannot be identified, or is identified as belonging to the wrong
IP address and is bounced as spam. But if the robot program message gets
through to hotmail or comcast, I would think this unlikely.

In line with Robbin's reply, you will probably have better luck tracking
this if you finish setting up your SBS and follow his suggestions.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your response.

I think Larry has delivered good analysis as well as suggestions. Please take your time and use Message Tracking to check whether your SBS received the report email and dropped it finally. If so, let
us know what the detailed error messages recorded so that we can perform further research and find out if it is caused by your SBS server side or the sender side.

Moreover, here is a tool to test Inbound SMTP Email to see if there is any improper configuration of your SMTP virtual server.

I know a lot of info was covered in this thread between everyone, but I just
wanted to understand the scenario a little better. Are you saying that the
report is coming from a a server somewhere on the Internet and not inside
your network? If so, is the report's "From:" address an internal user's
actual email address, such as , or is it the "From:"
address a name that is not an actual internal user, yet has the same domain
suffix as your mail server, such as
?

If so, have you configured the IMF, or do you have a third party spam
software. If so, I would look at either of their settings.

Otherwise, are you using a POP3 connector?

I don't get an notification from MS saying somebody response to these
questions. I check the box.

Anyway,
Our systems runs a report, it links with a vendor's system. That system
(vendor) sends an email with a report attached to it. It never reaches us.
When I have them send that same report to another email outside of our
company like hotmail it arrives with no problem.

They (vendor) can send us emails with the attached report with no problem.
How do I examine the headers on the robot email message?

I'll run SBS health check

I ran the bpa scan, not a lot to go on, nothing about exchange or blocking
emails
Not really sure what to look for
a few things about .net, sql, sbs backup, all of which we don't use, a few
items about migrating to sbs 2008, which we're not doing for a while
Don't know where to go from here?
