blue screen when doing a system restore

I had cause to try using the Vista system restore feature for the first time
to get round some intellipoint software that wouldn't uninstall or
re-install after a failed upgrade.

The problem is every time I try to do a system restore my PC blue screens
during the shutdown.

The PC is rock solid at all other times and has never blue screened before,
however it blue screens every time when I try to do a system restore from
any of several system restore points.

Anyone come across this before?

Thanks

Peter Lawton

Hi Peter--

I don't know the cause of the BSOD you got trying to use Sys Restore. What
are the key words on the stop message? You can freeze the BSOD to show you.

If you have the DVD try doing a startup repair from the recovery link on
the DVD when you put it in one screen after the language choice screen to
fix the BSOD problem.

Also using the Win Installer Cleanup Utility may help you uninstall the
software you were trying to uninstall in the first place.

The windows installer cleanup utility helped me get rid of the broken new
intellipoint install and install the old one

Many thanks

Good news. Thanks for the followup Peter. That app doesn't uninstall, but
it does remove obstacles to an uninstall and a potential future reinstall of
a similar program or later version by getting rid of corrupt .dlls and
corrupt reg strings.

Nice going.
