Blue screen Errors - Vista Home Premium

I've just done a rebuild of my pc back to a clean hard disk.

Over the last few days I've been re-installing all my software etc as well
as getting Windows Update to try and update the system. This has not worked
corrcetly and there are still a few updates which fail every time.

However I'm also getting Blue screen crashes (never had one before on
Vista). The PC now reboots (apparently at random - I know it won't be, but I
cannot see any connection between the various reboots). One day I had three,
yesterday 1, today 1.

I'm getting the following message. From googling, I seem to see it is a
driver issue, but I cannot read the dmp file to work out what is causing the
problem.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please.

Which updates won't install? What error message do you get?

Random reboots and blue screens are usually caused by one of two things: a
bad driver, or flaky hardware.

Have you added or changed any hardware lately? Try removing the hardware.

Try removing all your unnecessary gadgets (webcam, etc) and see if that
fixes the problem.

It's possible that your RAM is defective -- try running the Windows Memory
Diagnostic Tool (search the Internet for instructions).

So far I've had probs with the following updates

KB 938979 Error Code 800706BE

KB 944533 Error Code 80073712

KB 929777 Error Code 800706BE


I've now stopped trying downloads of MS Update for now.

I've gradually been adding hardware as I rebuild (I went back to basics with
a clean HDD) The only "recent" additions are my Epson printer, My Sony Phone,
and my CReative MP3 player. I've now removed all and I'll see if this helps,
but as the fault is intermiittent, I won' know for a few days if this works.

I have just run MemTest 86 on the installed memory which passed all tests,
so it looks as if that is not the problem.

I had hoped that the error codes (or the dump file would have pointed to
which driver is giving me grief. Is there kn further info on these points?

see if it's heat related, make sure all your fans are spinning. Also make
sure the video and audio card have the updated vista ready drivers

Just keep an eye on the computer without all the extra hardware installed.
Also, Dattron's suggestion is important -- make sure your box isn't
overheating (the BIOS usually reports the temp of your CPU, which you can
compare to the published tolerances). Overclocking your hardware also leads
to random bluescreens.


FYI, those errors are
RPC_S_CALL_FAILED The remote procedure call failed.

ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT The component store has been corrupted.

The second one is pretty scary, and suggests that the database of installed
updates is broken. It could be caused if you got a bluescreen in the middle
if an install. If you search for the SXS error code, you'll find a few
forums that suggest potential fixes, but their advice is very much
unsupported.

The .dmp file can be debugged with windbg, if you really know what you're
doing. (I do not know how to debug bluescreens.)

Hi, i've been having Blue Screen errors like most of you seem to have.

It started about 5 months ago as a one off, then gradually got more and
more frequent until a few weeks ago it was happening once a day. I think
'reset' the computer to original factory settings and the errors stopped
completely. Until just now it happened again, twice in about an hour of
itself.
It tends to happen, almost everytime, when i've closed the laptop
screen and it should be going into hibernate or sleep mode then when i
come back it's shut down and a warning message pops up.
The details of this message are pasted below and it's, to the best of
my knowledge, the same each time.
If anyone can help me then please do, it'd be much appreciated. If you
want my system specs. then just say and i can (try) and find them, i'm
far from a computer genius, i can use them but can't fix them.
Windows hasn't got any info. that can help me (i've tried sending the
data to check for solutions but nothing came back)
