Hi,

I remember this phenomenon a while back happened to me under XP but I cannot
remember how it was solved then. Anyways, trouble is that BSD happens on
startup, just when to login, in case a usb powered external hard disk which
was connected at the previous session is now disconnected during startup.
Only way to get machine booting is to connect the hard drive, but is has to
be the exact same usb port, using a differnt one does not work either.
Haven't seen anything yet from MS in this regard, maybe missed it, hence
appreciate any sound input.

OS WinVista Ultimate x86

cheers

Please post a complete copy of the Stop Error Report.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing
the F8 key during StartUp and select option - Disable automatic
restart on system failure.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

What is the make and model of your computer. What CD system disks do
you have for your computer?

Hope this helps.

I am getting this error alos. It's on a Windows Basic Home edition machine.
Safe mode does not work, and the support page indicates that there is a hot
fix that's available "only if the situation is critical". I think not being
able to login to the machine is critical.

Anyways, in the two attempts that were recorded, here's the details:

Technical data:

STOP 0x00000050 (0x9e7bd000, 0x00000001, 0x81c834f3, 0x00000000)

2nd attempt:

STOP 0x00000050 (0x98039004, 0x00000000, 0x81d70fce, 0x00000000)

There are no devices attached. The last piece of "hardware" installed was
an Insignia MP3 player. I am attempting to hit a restore point prior to that
installation to see if that fixes it.

Any other advice would be appreciated
