Blue screen STOP: c000021a Fatal System Error (after Auto updates

Yesterday Windows did some auto updates and rebooted. No initial problems,
however today when I booted up I received a blue screen with STOP: c000021a
Fatal System Error The verification of a knowndll failed. system process
terminated unexpectdly with a status of )xc0000020 (0x8c4b13f8 0x00000000)
The system has been shut down
Initially I couldn't hit F8 to try safe mode or repair. eventually i got in
but neither is helping .... Anyone have any suggestions ?
