Well, there's a thing! I've just bought a Zoom 4310 USB Bluetooth adapter
in an effort to use Bluetooth to synchronise my Compaq iPaq 3970 - which was
causing a few problems - only to receive this reply from Zoom's technical
support...

....and that's me screwed! Does anyone know better?

A little better. It is sort of true that SP2 does cause some issues with BT.
The issue is that it assumes you want to use the BT stack that comes with
it. Makes it nice if the profiles you are planning to use are the ones that
are supported. It becomes pretty plug and play. Just grab a BT dongle (a
supported one) plug it in and it gets instantly configured and you can get
on with that BT keyboard and mouse and other things. Unfortunately AS is a
problem. I had the same issue with my Belkin BT adapter.

The fix was to go into system devices, find the BT device, and update the
driver. Say you have it on CD, and point it at the drivers that came with
your BT dongle. Wish I could be more detailed and specific, but that's the
general idea. Don't know if that will work for you but it did for me.

Hi Sven, and thanks for your reply.

Are you saying that with SP2, just plug in the dongle, let WinXP install it
but use the CD to update the driver? Also, are you suggesting the Belkin
4310 may not be compatible with WinXP SP2? Where can I find out which ones
are?

Thanks in advance,

Pete

Part of that is easy. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=841803.
If the OS detects a BT dongle or PC card, it will default to the built in
drivers and load them, like any other Plug and Play device that windows has
native drivers for. Like any other device you can go update, or downgrade,
the driver from the device parameters box. You likely won't get Windows to
ask you what driver you want if it is supported, but you can change it after
the fact. I just found it easier to work with the BT software that came with
my Belkin dongle than try to let MSs BT implementation handle it.

The following is an article about configuring BT connections, though the
title doesn't sound like it.
