Bluetooth problems with Microsoft keyboard / mouse

The Microsoft Bluetooth optical desktop elite is connected to my new Dell /
Vista laptop using the built-in bluetooth adaptor.

Everything connects and works just fine, however, the mouse, or the
keyboard, will intermittently behave as if not "connected" (keys don't
result in input keystrokes, mouse movements don't move the cursor). Waiting
about 30 seconds will resolve the interruption of service.

This problem doesn't occur on my Dell / XP system, so I doubt it's the
keyboard or mouse. Is there any known problem with Vista bluetooth?

Sam

Apparently, only with Microsoft Bluetooth keyboards and mice.
(At least that has been my experience with Microsoft Bluetooth keyboards and
mice, even with the latest Microsoft keyboard/mouse software).

My Logitech MX5000 Laser set works just fine with the Logitech-provided
dongle. However, installing the latest Logitech software results in no
Bluetooth icon either in Control Panel, or the Notification Area. Nor does
there seem to be a Bluetooth Stack installed. (if one is, it is simply not
visible to me).

Logitech says that the keyboard and mouse are "prepaired" with the receiver
they provided.
Any help or advice gratefully received.

Should I just be thankful that my Logitech keyboard/software set work
correctly, even though there appears to be no Bluetooth installed?

It's a relief to know that I'm not the only one having this problem. I
am using Vista Ultimate 32bit version. Prior to purchasing my new DELL
XPS m1210 notebook I had been using the MS Desktop Elite for Bluetooth
with my Dimension Desktop with no problems. I then let my wife use the
set with her Inspiron 600m (using the built-in Bluetooth receiver) and
it works like a charm. These scenarios of course are all involving
computers running Windows XP Pro sp2 and not Vista. With Vista, I am
experiencing the same problems with the disconnecting as you guys seem
to be.

The annoying thing is that both the mouse and keyboard work most of the
time. They also work when I first boot the system and login without a
proble. In fact, if I use the mouse for an extended period of time and
don't use the keyboard, the mouse never seems to lose connectivity. It
is only AFTER I have used the mouse for a long period of time WITHOUT
using the keyboard that the keyboard seems to disconnect. The
super-annoying thing is that as soon as I hit a key on the keyboard and
realize that the keyboard is not responding, it causes the mouse to stop
responding too. Now I don't mean "Not Responding" in the sense of a
system or application hand, rather it's like the keyboard just realized
that nap time was over and wanted to tell it's buddy the mouse to wake
up too! Only the mouse never went to sleep to begin with. So what seems
to happen at that point is that the mouse just seems to assume that the
keyboard must know what it's talking about and it too decides to
disconnect. It is at that point where neither of the peripherals work
but then about 10-15 seconds later they come to life. This happens like
all the time.

I am pretty positive that this is like a bluetooth stack issue that
Microsoft needs to fix. It isn't a power saving issue b/c I have taken
every precaution to ensure that I have everything running at full power
and that none of my hardware should go into any sort of
"sleep/hibernation/suspend" mode. There is even an option in the device
manager where the bluetooth adapter is listed where if you right-click
on the DELL Truemobile 355 Bluetooth + EDR device and select
properties->power management that you can tell Windows NOT to allow the
OS to turn off the device to save power.

Anyhow, I await a patch from Microsoft. Here's hoping.

Also, do you get lock ups... I'm running the 64-bit version of Ultimat
and when I click on a link in my email to launch a web page it locks u
my browser and I have to close it down.... same with quickbooks. When
try to send a print job to the printer it locks up the whole program..
I think the 64-bit version is hosed up!:

Intel Pentium D 3.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 32-bit
Bluetooth USB dongle: IVT Corporation, Driver ver. 6.1.30.94, date:
7/2/2008
Keyboard Elite for Bluetooth model 1002, Driver ver. 6.0.6001.18000,
date: 6/21/2006.....hmm
ill try to update drivers and see what happens, ill post what happens.

this is by far the #1(and only...so far) issue with my home-built
computer and i finally decided to yell at the internet to get this issue
resolved. please keep me posted if anyone else finds out whats

I had been having the same issue on my Dell XPS m1730 as described above
with my Microsoft Keyboard and mouse (Elite Desktop for Bluetooth) not
responding using the inbuilt Dell bluetooth adapter. What I have found
that seems to have worked so far was to download and install the latest
vista versions of intellitype and intellipoint. Since installing these I
haven't had a dropout at all after returning from leaving the laptop
idle.
The download link
is:http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/do...px?category=MK
Download the version for the keyboard and mouse separately as you can't
get the Vista versions by selecting desktop sets.
Hope this helps.
