I can connect my ipaq rx4240 via usb but I want to use bluetooth. I have set
up everything according to documentation. But cannot get active sync to
connect or detect the device.
Going through bluetooth control panel I can discover the ipaq enter a
passkey both ends and it appears to sync except the active sync icon remains
gray and I can't explore the mobile device from my pc and vice versa. I've
selected the com port for incoming in connection settings But the device
isn't detected ever. Very frustrating.
I turned firewall off to eliminate that as an isssue even though active sync
was checked to allow access.
Discovery is turned on and bluetooth is on the device. The blue led flashes.
If I can connect another bluetooth device to the pc through the dongle I
have it has to be an issue with the ipaq, wm5 or active sync itself?
Vpn has nothing to do with it I hope because That's about the only area I
haven't explored. Has anyone else had fun with connecting via bluetooth?

Doing Bluetooth on your device requires putting together 2 of my pervious
posts:

HP and Motorola use the Broadcom Bluetooth
stack which has not yet added support for the sync UUID so it cannot find
the WMDC sync service. Because of this, devices with this version of the
Bluetooth stack on them need to have Bluetooth set up as a COM port on the
desktop and then you'll need a registry hack to get WMDC to connect to them.
We're working to make this easier in future versions of WMDC.

and

While serial is not officially supported, you can change the registry value
for "SerialPort" to "COM1" or "COM2" etc. Then reboot the PC and don't
touch the connection settings page after that. You should be able to
connect and browse files.
Its in "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services"

Hi Gary,

Thanks for that advice.

I can send files by blue tooth from my PC to other devices, however, my PC
won't accept them and the sending devices report something along the lines
that message send failed. This is so despite the fact that the PC
successfully establishes pairings with the devices.

Does your advice here apply to my situation? If so, as my technical literacy
is extremely poor, I would need more detailed instructions ie. how does one
change te "SerialPort" to "COM1" or "COM2"? What are the step by step
instructions?

Alternatively, if this is not the solution, would you be able to provide the
step-by-step instructions?

PC: IBM Z61T
Platform: Windows XP Professional
Main Paired Device: HP iPAQ rw6828
Other paired devices attempted: Sony PDA (Symbian), Motorola

Thanks again.

Sean

Sorry, my advice is only for getting a Bluetooth connection to Windows
Mobile Device Center, I don't have experience with doing Bluetooth file
transfer.
