Hello,

on the taskbar I have a bluetooth icon, near the clock, which I dont want it
to be present.

I dont use it and it is set off.

In the control panel I tried to uncheck "display bt icon on the notification
area" but did not work.

How can I get rid of this icon?

thanks

You can hide the icon. Right click on the system tray (the area where
the clock, blutooth icon, etc are visible), and select properties.
You'll see some text that says, "Hide inactive icons". Make sure that
there is a check mark by those words, then click customize. Look for the
offending icon (in this case, the blue tooth icon), and then click the
words to the immediate right (they might say "hide when inactive" or
something else). When you click there, a drop down arrow will appear.
Click that arrow and select to the right and select "hide". That's it!

I assume that you are talking about a laptop, as if you added a Bluetooth
dongle to a desktop machine, you would have only done so if you needed it.

There should be a way to turn off the Bluetooth transponder using a keyboard
shortcut (you press Fn + F5 on ThinkPads, for example). If you cannot find
a way, you can disable Bluetooth in Device Manager.

If you do not use Bluetooth, you should disable it, as it will be using
battery power unnecessarily, and some people would say it is a potential
security risk as well.

ss.
