boot failure; install issues

I recieve the error message 0x800703E7 when I download the SP2 update. It
won't install.
Furthermore, a bigger problem i recently came across: My computer will not
boot from the hard disk. It needs the XP cd in the disk drive to boot.
I recently re-installed XP from my cd. It said that my product key was
pirated, when it actually it is valid. I got a new product key from windows
techincal support, but i still think my registry is FUBAR.

This problem occurs because the disk is corrupted.
