How many programs do you have running in the background? How many of them
look for updates automatically? How many of them will look for an update
upon reboot if the program was not updated within the last hour?
Go into each program, other that your major security programs, and turn OFF
automatic updating. It just may make a huge difference. Then remember to
manually update these other programs on a weekly basis.
Really, is there any reason what-so-ever for a photo program to check for
updates every time the computer is started, or a music program or any
program - other than your major security apps? I think NOT!
