I have installed the 64-bit version of Vista beta 2 on a 60 gig ide hard
drive connected to my computer through a USB adapter. I have a 64-bit
processor (AMD Athlon64 3500+). It won't boot all the way. After the
Windows black screen with the gas gauge at the bottom the screen blinks blue
for a split second and then reboots. I read in another post about problems
with Vista trying to find a product connected via the USB port. Anyone know
this for sure? Am I SOL trying to run it from a USB hard drive? Thanks for
your time.

same case here. i tried to install vista beta2 for trial in a USB hard
drive, however after installation, it just can't boot into it. After that, i
connect my drive to my SATA port then it works.

I think this is a bug/ limitation, but if it is a limitation, i think Vista
should able to detect it during the installation and at least a warning is
expected.
