Briefcase problem

I have 2 machines, a desktop and a laptop, that both run Vista Ultimate,
32-bit. I am trying to use briefcase to synchronize files between the 2
machines. The briefcase seems to be set up correctly. The files on the
laptop all point to the correct files on the desktop. If I update a file on
the desktop, I can synchronize on the laptop when they are connected. If I
try to update a file on the laptop, when they are not connected, I get an
error saying "briefcase is in use on another computer".

This used to work for me before the machines were switched from XP to Vista,
but when I search the web for my error message, I see many people having the
problem but no solutions. The problem seems do date back to NT 4.0. I
would hope there is a fix by now.

I have not seen that mentioned in the Kbase, but I would imagine it's an
Ownership issue. I would add my user to the ownership list of the folders
and let files inherit that.

I don't think that is the problem. All the names, IDs, and passwords
associated with the files on both computers are identical

Use sync files and make off-line files available instead of using briefcase.
