I am trying to lighten up my laptop - I see there is a key with a sun and an
arrow on it - when I click on it - it does nothing.
Help!
Thanks

It is most likely an embedded key, you have to use it with Function key on
your keyboard, usually represented by Fn

Try holding down the 'fn' key when you tap the button. It should be located
next to the left ctrl key on most notebooks. If that doesn't work, you can go
Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change Plan Settings and manually adjust
your display brightness.

See if there is an Fn key on your computer, and hold it down while you tap
the brightness keys.

thank you for your help - didn't even know I had an Fn key - held it down
clicked on the sun and it brightened up.
As you can see I'm new to the computer.

You are welcome. Below are links to some Vista web resources you may find
useful. Also, you should take a look at your laptop manufacturer's support
site.

How did you manage to "click" on a key? Are you a click typist by any
chance? Do you know how to read a manual? Surely that would have described
the role of Fn keys on your laptop.

Cheers.
