Our company is having an issue getting an application called
BrowseControl to work with Microsoft's Automatic updates. The updates
will install when BrowseControl is set to allow total internet access.
They will not update when BrowseControl is set to not allow internet
access with the exception of allowing the sites listed in the "White
List". I have added the correct urls to the "White List".
When trying to access the Microsoft Update page with BrowseControl off
(allowing full internet access), the page loads normally and gives a
message stating you have to be an administrator in order to download
updates and install them. This is normal. We use Group Policy to set
the policy so that non-Admins will be allowed to install the updates
after they are automatically downloaded behind the scenes.
When trying to access the Microsoft Update page with BrowseControl on
(allowing only "white listed" sites), the page loads normally until
it gets to the point where it should list the "Express" or
"Custom" installation choices. At that point, it gives an error
stating the page cannot be displayed. I would think that I would get a
message stating the same thing as is referenced in the above paragraph.
(This makes me wonder if there are other urls that should be added to
the "White List"?)
I am certainly not an expert in this field and have spent countless
hours on this issue over the last few weeks.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
