I have a server named “wsus01” it is running WSUS3sp1 on 2003 standard. The
server is an MSVirtual server and only runs the WSUS service. I have is set
to download all classifications of Windows and Office products updates to the
local c:\WSUS\WsusContent directory.

I would like be able to access the server via a client machines browser and
run windows updates with a website similar to update.microsoft.com. I want to
be able to do an on demand scan of a computer via this website for both
computers on the domain and in workgroup mode.

My domain pc’s are able to retrieve the updates via the group policy and
scheduled update times.

During the install of the software the wizard said the URL is
http://WSUS01/selfupdate but when I connect to the url from the client I get
the error. The website declined to show this webpage HTTP 403 Most likely
causes: This website requires you to log in.

When I browse to that site from the server locally I get the same error.
When I look in the C:\program files\update services\selfupdate folder I find
only a ton of *.cab files and no htm, xml, asp files.

If some who can assist on this goal please reply – thank you

WSUS does not provide this functionality, only the equivalent functionality to
automatic updates. You configure the client using either group policy (local or
domain) or registry settings. See the installation and operations guides.

Incidentally, WSUS questions should be posted to
microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services rather than here.

Harry.
