Hey,

This is only annoying but in our environment the browser (IE) will take
clients to the Windows Update site some time after patch Tuesday. Our group
policy disallows clients from using the windows update facility, all patches
must come through a corporate distribution. So if I can turn off the ability
to use windows update why can't I turn off the browser hijack that takes me
there ?

If we can turn this off then clue me in man what do I do? Give me the secret
so I can pass it along.

Thanks,

Keith

IE Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing > Automatically check for
IE updates: Is this checked?

Even after unchecking it, options in several third-party applications may
disallow the change. These include Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea Timer,
SpywareBlaster, SpySweeper, Norton AntiVirus, McAfee VirusScan and/or
Antispyware, and recent versions of Zone Alarm (Free and Pro).

PA Bear,

Thanks! That was set and it surived a reboot unset. I will see if ops is
interested in pushing that change during the next patch cycle. Just an
annoyance, but it will make us look more like we have our act together.
