Browser now ALWAYS defaults to WinUpdate as First Home Page

Ever since I installed the Windows Update software my browser now ALWAYS
defaults to WinUpdate as First Home Page every time I manually open a new
browser window. I've disabled/uninstalled the software and I still have this
nagging problem.

I inadvertently said "Windows Update" when I really meant "Microsoft Update".

Also, setting or changing "Home Page" under Options in IE has no effect.
