Browser shuts down after auto-update

Yesterday my computer did the automatic updating, and now my browser shuts
down every 5 or 10 minutes, and I get that box to send an error report, which
I do. I have XP and use IE 6. Anyone else having this issue? It's getting
rather annoying. I even tried to run through the update page manually twice,
and the browser shut down and sent the error report both times.

Thanks

I have no idea, the computer does this automatically. I just get a message
telling me they will be installed upon re-booting.

Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com | select CUSTOM and scan | Update
History (left pane) will list what updates were installed and when.

===================================

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527

Support for Windows Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport

For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in
the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft
subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with
security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related
to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB######).

If your problem relates to a Cumulative Security Update for IE, call the
above number and ask to be transferred to the Consumer IE7 queue (which is
47830).

For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary
for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web
site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx

For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through
your usual support contacts.

Here are the updates. I'm considering trying to stay online long enough to
download a different browser, uninstall explorer, and try to re-install
later.

I had to go through 3 computers to find one that gave me the pop up reply
window. None have pop up blockers. Anyway . ..

If you close all open applications (i.e., anything with a taskbar icon),
uninstall "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP
(KB944533)" via Add/Remove Programs, and reboot, does the behavior persist?

What anti-virus application are you running? What third-party firewall (if
any) are you using? What anti-spyware applications are installed (other
than Windows Defender)?

PA Bear:

I can't find anything with that number (KB944533) or name in the program
listing under add/remove. I do have KB928366 microsoft.net, KB936181 MSXML
4.0 and KB839803 windows installer 3.1, but nothing with cumulative in the
title.

I have McAfee anit v and firewall, and I occasionally run spybot.

Open Add/Remove Programs again | Make sure the "Show Updates" box is checked
at top-right | Now see if "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer
6 for Windows XP (KB944533)" is listed.

What anti-virus/firewall did you have installed before you installed the
McAfee suite? Did you uninstall it via Add/Remove Programs before
installing the McAfee suite?
