PC downloaded some auto updates and on reboot noticed no x-fi soundcard.
Worked quite ok yesterday but the sound icon had a red cross through it.
After quite a few reboots still no sound so I downloaded latedst drivers but
they couldnt locate my soundblaster device. Went to Device Manager and it
had an exclamation mark and a message about not having enough resources to
run this device and to remove others to do this ( something like this ). It
had check for a solution so I did and the solution was the
BSOD...............

And you know something, the BSOD was the solution as it then worked on
reboot.

Now the problem is the X-fi and Vista. Who do you blame ? Well it doesnt
really matter but what is important is that we the customers of Microsoft
and Creative Labs have had enough and deserve better then we are getting. I
am very tempted to go the Linux route .

Microsoft has to realise that after a while even its loyal base of customers
start to lose patience. I have never had more frustrations with any MS
system then what happens with Vista. Anyway I guess this message is really a
waste of time but then I have just wasted over a hour trying to get things
workings.

If you plan to go the Linux rout, say goodbye to your X-fi.

There are no Linux drivers for the X-fi and Creative has no plans to write
any . . . not only this but they have so far refused to give the open source
community the info needed to write drivers for the Linux kernel.

Well, I "sit" corrected.

Last time I checked ALSA there still were no drivers (this was just the
other day) and last time I checked Creative (months ago) the choice for
Linux was there, but it took you to a page stating that there were no
drivers available for the chosen operating system.

I see they only have 64 bit drivers available (so this is useless to me at
the moment) and they are still beta as well . . .

Same thing happened to me with a diff soundcard. It was after vista
updated with this "ATI PCI Express (3GIO) Filter Driver". After the
installation and reboot, I lost sound. Go into Device mgr and noticed
many yellow exclam! claiming not enough resources.

I did a system restore and everything was back to normal...

This thread has info on it

I hope this helps

Well will leave everything alone for now as it is now working ok. Have read
the thread and the frustrations of users must be getting near breaking
point.

I'm so glad I'm not using anything from ATI anymore.

Actually I don't think this was an ATi problem, since many that installed
this patch, just assuming it was needed, then had problems didn't even have
any ATi products installed.

I think it was more a Windows Update problem, since this was listed (and I
must point out as an "OPTIONAL UPDATE") on systems that had no ATi hardware
at all.

I do have an ATi video card that works just fine, but didn't receive this
update in the listing . . . not that I'd have installed it anyway. I ignore
hardware driver updates like this and rather use the driver updates provided
by the hardware manufacturer.
