I am running Vista Home Premium, 2GB of memory. All updates installed.
I recently installed a usb tv tuner (Pinnacle 801e). For a few weeks
everything was fine, then I began to get BSODs. The error message was
the following.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Stop 0x000000D1 (0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8DD327EC)

USBPORT.SYS - Address 8DD327EC base at 8DD2E000

I checked all of my devices to make sure all were up to date, ran
memtest to ensure that my RAM was not corrupt, and still got the
problem. Pinnacle support is about as useful as a one handed clock so I
started searching and found a few posts here but none relating to Vista
so I am hoping someone else may have seen this.

Hi,

Have you run the system file checker from an elevated command prompt yet?
Sounds like that usb driver file is corrupt and that utility should detect
and correct it.

Ran sfc and checked the log and the only files that were not repaire
were related to the windows sidebar (which I don't use). Ran the tune
and got another BSOD with a different error:

Stop: 0x000000D1 (0x58726279, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8E336730)
USBPORT.SYS - Address 8E336730 base at 8E331000

Ran sfc again, checked logs, still only windows sidebar files no
repaired. Ran tuner again got another BSOD with a new error:

Stop: 0x000000D1 (0x6A2E061D, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8E53A730)
USBPORT.SYS - Address 8E53A730 base at 8E53500

Hi,

Something about the tuner software is causing the USB supporting driver
failure. If no other USB devices cause this issue, then you need to take
this up with Pinnacle as it's being caused by their software. By any chance
was the software updated after the initial installation?

After doing some reading I came up with a question. Could one USB device
affect another. I have a USB light that I uses sometimes, I read that
they have different power requirements than "normal" USB devices
(printers, Mp3 players, etc.) Could the light somehow screw with the
port's power ues in relation with other devices?

Hi,

Certainly they could. One major problem with USB devices is power draw
requirements that exceed the supply.

Hi, one suggestion and one question.

- I have 801e SE on my Vista Home Premium, and I noticed that my Vista is
x64. I found x64 TVCenter Pro which is version 5.4 from Pinnacle at their web
site, and reinstalled it. Your Vista could also be x64?

- Have you tried to use Windows Media Center in that configuration, instead
of Pinnacle's TVCenter Pro? In my case, everything's fine with TVCenter Pro,
but Windows MCE does not detect TV single at all... If you know anything
about it???

I am using the 32 bit version and I am sure that the problem is wit
Pinnacle's drivers. Before I was having problems I had some succes
with MCE
