This was installed on my pc a a priority update.
I have an Asus A7N8X and I'm using the onboard
Realteck ALC650 6CH audio (with built in HP amplifier)

This update Cause pemanent (small) backgroud white noise, ALL THE TIME.

+ When trying to play a movie with VLC 0.8.1 It causes MAJOR WHITE NOISE
even with Window's sound turned all the way down it is loud enough to blow
the speakers.

Hi Christ,

More often than not it seems, driver updates d/loaded and installed via
Windows Update cause problems. Why driver updates are now being classed as
High Priority I do not know. If the NVidia driver update is in Add/Remove
Programs, opt to remove it. If it is not in Add/Remove Programs, do a System
Restore to a date that precedes its install.

If you're using Automatic Updates, perhaps change the setting to either
"Download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them" or "Notify
me but don't automatically download or install them".....that way the driver
updates are not automatically d/loaded and installed, and you can opt to NOT
have them d/loaded and installed.

I agree with Patti - *never* download drivers via WU. Always get driver
updates from the hardware manufacturer - and only if you actually need them.

Tanks, that is what i did to fix the problem for me, but i reported it hoping
to save the trouble for other users.

It reflect pretty bad on Microsoft when it's own personnel tell people that
more ofthen then not Microsoft Udates cause problem instead of fixing them.

Good Luck to all.

Tks anyway.

You're welcome :-)

Just for the record, I am not employed by Microsoft. Via these newsgroups
and web-based forums, I have helped home users overcome problems that they
incur or have assisted them in learning to perform certain functions (eg.,
format and install), and due to my volunteer effort I was chosen to be a
recipient of an MS MVP Award. The same is true of many others MVPs.

Regards,

Yep - and to clarify for the OP - *no* MVPs are Microsoft employees. We're
just regular folk.

http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ has more info.
