Greetings,
This has already been rectified in 2009 beta. However, it will not automatically open Hotmail, it simply sends you to the MSN Homepage and you have to sign in manually. The reason for this is because Microsoft cannot guarantee, except through it's own browser, that it can securely send your credentials to sign you into Hotmail. Another option is to use Stuffplug (http://www.stuffplug.com) to automatically open the Hotmail link in your default browser, although it can't automatically sign you in always either. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2008 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "InsideR" <> wrote in message news:1791A33A-137E-4B10-8634-... > Having been unable to find another place to file bug reports, I am posting > one on this forum. Hi Jonathan when using 2009 beta and IE as my default browser if I click on the email button it just takes me to the MSN home page. Is this a known bug/feature? I liked the easy access to email that the old messenger had. I have firefox installed on the machine but the default browser is set to IE and i've always used that to access email. Hi,
To the best of my knowledge so far there's no way to work around this in 2009, I have a few thoughts about how it might be possible but I need to do some further research and testing. I believe this could be filed under the "can't please everyone" department ![]() -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Chris" <> wrote in message news:820DCD18-CFD0-47A3-9437-... > Strangely, I want it back how it was. "Can't please everyone" is not a valid excuse. This is just a mistake on MSN's end. None of the previous versions had the problem of having to log in again. When MSN used open hotmail in IE, that was not a problem. I use Firefox as my default but I had no problem using a IE to check my email instead. I do however, have a problem of having to log into MSN and then logging in again to check my email. I've used hotmail for about 10 years now and MSN for a little bit less. It was so convenient to log onto MSN and be able to see when I got mail and access my mail with the click of a button. Now that I have to log in twice, I find it a nuisance and a waste of time. TIME IS MONEY here.
I now do not log onto to MSN that often as I don't see a need to. If I need to speak to someone, I can simply phone them. It's faster and more direct. And after much hesitation, I've decided to LEAVE MY HOTMAIL ACCOUNT as there are much better email services out there. I only stuck with hotmail because it was conveniently linked to messenger. Get it together or people will look somewhere else. Did you do any further searching before your rant here?
