Hi,
I am new to clustering but have idea that we need SAN for Clustering and
created a cluster on windows server 2008 R2 using starwind to have iSCSI.
The starWind software is evaluation version and it will expire in next 2
days. I want to setup a virtual cluster environment for developers for
permanent use that may not expire. I wanted to know if windows storage
server 2008 can do the same job as starWind is doing or not? or we need
physical hardware for windows storage server 2008 to work.

I have currently started downloading windows storage server 2008 from MSDN
and not sure will it solve my requirement to build permanent virtual cluster
environment or not. My question is: can we use windows storage server 2008
to have a replacement of starWind software?
Has any one worked or have an idea about it?

Please reply me ASAP.

Shamshad Ali.

Storage Server contains an iSCSI target, so you can use that to setup your
shared disks.

FreeNAS (http://freenas.org) works also fine with
Windows 2003/2008/R2 clustering.
And it is free...
