A bunch of BSODs

I've had a lot of BSODs over the last three months or so that I've been
using Vista, until recently ALL of them with IRQ_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL_TO
message but yesterday I got two with PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, and today one with
IRQ_etc and another with PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGE_AREA (something to do with
nvlddmkm.sys file).

This is a dual boot machine and I had none of these blue screens under XP
over a period of 9 months so I assume the problem is either down to Vista or
something not compatible with it.

I am getting rather concerned about the increasing frequency of these
crashes and now for different reasons. Perhaps replacing the motherboard
and RAM would solve the problem but I am worried that I may not be able to
activate my OEM version of Vista.

Would much appreciate any help to get this put right.

Denis

by chance is the machine a Toshiba Satellite or does it have ATI Graphics? I
had very similar messages with a Toshiba Satellite P205D that I had for a
month (before I got it replaced with an HP pavilion) and it had ATI
graphics. (HP has nvidia and no problems).

nvlddmkm is a driver provided for nvidia based hardware, check there
site 'Welcome to NVIDIA - World Leader in Visual Computing Technologies'
(http://nvidia.com) for updated motherboard and/or Graphics drivers they
might correct some BSOD screens you are seeing.

If you can write down all the ""STOP: <error code number>"" we can help
identify the exact cause.

The Nvidia driver Stop error code for Page Fault in NonPage Area was:
0x00000050 (0xFFFFFFF8,0x00000000,0x8F508D4,0x00000000)

The error code for PFN_LIST_CORRUPT was STOP: 0x00000004E (i did not write
down the codes in brackets)

I had this one bookmarked from Microsoft yesterday helping another user
with the same BSOD Code..

-Stop 0x00000050 or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA-
-The Stop 0x50 message indicates that requested data was not in memory.
The system generates an exception error when using a reference to an
invalid system memory address. Defective memory (including main memory,
L2 RAM cache, video RAM) or incompatible software (including remote
control and antivirus software) might cause Stop 0x50 messages.-

-Possible Resolutions:-
-If you added new hardware recently, remove and replace the hardware to
determine if it is causing or contributing to the problem. Run
diagnostics software supplied by the hardware manufacturer to determine
if the component has failed.-

-STOP 0x50 messages can also occur after installing faulty drivers or
system services. If the file name is listed, you need to disable,
remove, or roll back that driver. If not, disable the recently installed
service or application to determine if this resolves the error. If this
does not resolve the problem, contact the hardware manufacturer for
updates. Using updated drivers and software is especially important for
network interface cards, video adapters, backup programs, multimedia
applications, antivirus scanners, and CD mastering tools. If an updated
driver is not available, attempt to use a driver from a similar device
in the same family. For example, if printing to a Model 1100C printer
causes Stop 0x50 errors, using a printer driver meant for a Model 1100A
or Model 1000 might temporarily resolve the problem. -

-STOP: 0x0000004E PFN_LIST_CORRUPT Error Message Cause:-
-This behavior occurs because a driver or other problem damaged the
input/output (I/O) driver structures. -
-If you receive this error message randomly, or when you try to start a
program, remove extra memory or have the random access memory (RAM) in
your computer tested. This behavior may occur if you have bad RAM.-

Try getting updated drivers for your devices then run a memtest (found
with vista) as both these BSOD codes note one of the root cause`s
relating to system memory being corrupted.
