Might be worth a try to number the photos.

Simple to do ...hard to explain...I hope this helps...

Open a folder and go to...Edit / Select All...
or just select one photo and type...Ctrl+A...

Now...with all the files highlighted...right click
the first photo and from the menu...choose...
Rename.

Type a base name that might be descriptive for
the folder... Vacation ... and a number...as follows...
Vacation (10001).jpg
(I'm just guessing they are in the .jpg format)

Now press...Enter...and windows will rename
the batch.

Vacation (10001).jpg
Vacation (10002).jpg
Vacation (10003).jpg

Enter a different base name in the next folder
and if you wish you can begin the numbers where
they ended in the first folder. Maybe the ending
filename in the first folder was:
Vacation (10303).jpg

For example: Summer Trip (10304).jpg

and windows will do the following:

Summer Trip (10304).jpg
Summer Trip (10305).jpg
Summer Trip (10306).jpg

Once all the renaming is done...you can
copy all the photos into one folder and do
a final rename for the complete collection.

Good luck.

BTW...personally I would make copies of the
folders and use the copies for my renaming
project. This way is anything goes wrong you
will still have the originals.

thanks for your help on this!

- it has worked. I have found though that the number to enter in was(1).
When I numbered the first pic (10001), as you suggested, the rest of the
pics numbered (2) and so on sequentially so that the (10001) went to the
end, not the beginning.

Thanks for the update...

Sorry, but something went wrong...

The numbers should have been:

(10001)
(10002)
(10003)

I guess you could try numbering the first
photo (1) but in my experience this causes
the numbers to be out of order.

Maybe the following would work better:

Img_0001.jpg
Img_0002.jpg

Anyway...the solution is numbering the files.

Cheers.
