Business N and media restore pack

Hi all.
Via MSDNAA i've got a license of Windows Vista Business N. One year ago i've
installed it on my desktop, and when the media restore pack was released i
installed it through the windows xp media player installer, because the
update doesn't appear in windows Update. Last week i need to format my pc,
and reinstall the same vista. But now, i'm not able to install the media
restore pack. Anytime i start the media player installer for xp, it start and
after some seconds the application window just close. In Vista problems
report and solutions, i've seen i've got an entry for each time i try to
install the media player, and it says this:

It seems like it think the pack is installed, but it isn't...

How can i solve this problem? Please, help me, i really need multimedia
library on vista...

My guess would be that your rebuild of the system included some auto-updates
from MS. Have you looked for the feature? One attack on the problem would be
to go offline, and uninstall all the hotfixes, then install your update,
then reinstall the hotfixes.

If you formatted the PC - why did you again use the "N" version? You
probably would be better suited to use regular Business, which you should
also have a license for. Am I confused?

What you are trying to do is not currently supported. An updated Media
Restore trigger pack will be required before this will work. This is in
progress, but I am not aware of any public ETA, simply that this scenario
(an SP1 system trying to install the Restore Pack) will not work until that
time.

I cannot have a business license. The license i have has been given me by my
university, via MSDNAA, and here, in italy, the only version available is the
business N, and we have to tahks the european community for that...

So, you are telling me that if i install a business N and download the media
restore pack, if i format my pc, and install again the same version of
business N with the same key, i canno install again the media restore pack?
Is this what you mean, or i have misunderstood?? (that's really stupid by
microsoft, if it is.... :S)

I talked with MSDNAA about this six months ago and I was advised that anyone
in MSDNAA should have *access* to both. Are they *choosing* to only give
you "N" systems?

No, that is happily not what I'm saying.

If you have a Vista RTM "N" system, install the Media Restore Pack then.
Then upgrade to Service Pack 1.

If you have a Vista "N" system that has Service Pack 1 applied (or if it was
uninstalled from the system), that uses an updated servicing stack that is
not compatible with the Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP's Media
Restore "trigger" package. This is a limitation of Windows Media Player 11
for Windows XP that will be corrected.

You may be able to use the Windows Media Runtime 11 Format SDK
redistributable here, but you cannot use the XP player installer at this
time. The right people (one of the teams I'm on) is aware of this and will
work on making sure you get the correct fix here in the future.

The XP player team's trigger pack used an early form of a servicing update
that was made obsolete - the trade-off was a very substantial performance
win on every single Service Pack 1 install (and all future servicing
updates). I agree that this was a tough decision to make. The XP player's
trigger package will be updated to be in full Vista servicing stack
compliance.

It is not generally recommended that you get the "N" version if you want the
non-"N" version.

Ok, so, if i don't misunderstood again, the problem you are talking about is
with Vista, SP1 and WMP... Or, better, on the update KB937287 and KB938371...
And I cannot uninstal them, no uninstall button on Control panel for this
two update...Damn...i think i have to format again...and hate it... :S
