buying a new pc

Hello,

I'm thinking of buying a new pc. I currently use vista home premium.

If I buy a new pc will I be able to copy an 'image' of my old pc to the new
one. Or will I have to reinstall everything ?

My data files are not a problem, I have backups.

What worries me is all the time it will take to re-install my progs
(including some I might have to buy again as they can only be installed on
one pc)

Also, I have a lot of downloaded freebies which I find very useful.

Thanks for all help & advice

K

Unless the hardware is very similar to your present PC (then why bother
'upgrading'?), it will not work due to missing drivers and other problems.

It will have to be a full, clean install.

Some may say you can try the image and then do a 'repair install' - good
luck with that!

If you are buying a new PC, it will come with an operating system (probably Vista) already on
it. Just reinstall the programs you like the most and then copy your data to the new pc.

Not necessarily. I just built a new PC with no OS on it. Some people,
like you, are too stupid to learn how to build their own PCs and have to
resort to Big Store USA and the crapware they throw on every PC they sell.

Or wipe the hard drive and install a real operating system like Ubuntu.

Sorry ****wit. I have built many PC's in my time. It's easy to do and since I have my OS for
free I can install it without all that crap HP, Dell, Toshiba, Sony, and others load the
computers with.

You are just too poor to use Windows. You have to use that INFERIOR Ubuntu to connect to the
world. You can't even go anywhere because you have no transportation. Damn, even with that
imaginary $14k a week you claim to get from the tooth fairy, you still have to scrimp and save.

Loser.

Nobody needs to wipe their system clean to install that CRAPPY Ubuntu. Remember, Ubuntu has
been free for years and is still on LESS THAN one percent of the desktops out there.

People try Ubuntu, realize what a piece of CRAP it is then quickly wipe it off their machines
and put Windows back on.

It MAY come with an operating system (not necessarily vista), but it's
certainly NOT necessarily so.

The important thing to note is that it doesn't come with Ubuntu. Nobody needs that crappy
Ubuntu on their PC unless they want to waste time and effort.

Yes, I do. First one buys the parts and then one builds. Simple enough
for you, moron?

I am not broke and I haven't lost anything. Course, we all know you have
this problem that you think if someone has less money than you do or
doesn't use Windows, they are inferior to you. It must be pretty lonely
in Frank's World.

Another lie.

Just rented a car. Oops.

Which translates into over 10 million and climbing.

See the thread in alt.os.linux.ubuntu with the title "I'm amazed!" which
has experiences of recent converts from Windows to Ubuntu. Oops, you
lied again. Are you related to Britney Spears and that's why you don't
identify yourself? Perhaps you *are* Britney spears and Oops, you did it
again!

This is true if you are as stupid as this nymshifter and are *unable* to
install Ubuntu properly and get everything out of it one needs.
