Bypassing Windows XP SP3 install in Windows Update

Hi. I'm using a PC with Windows XP SP2, and I have been specifically
instructed NOT to install SP3. However, I do want to install any other
updates.

I checked the yellow shield icon in the corner, and it said that I had
several new updates, including SP3. However, I wanted to set the SP3 update
as hidden so it wouldn't download by accident, so I went to the Windows
Update website and chose "Custom," and it prompted me to download an update
for the Validation Tool, so I did that.

Now when I choose "Custom," it gives me the option of installing SP3 or
skipping the installation ("Review other updates" or something like that).
Does this mean that I can install the other "high priority" updates without
installing SP3? I'd really appreciate any help with this.

I haven't installed SP3 on the work computer either and have hidden the SP3
update.

You can review other updates skipping the SP3, I've done this.
