c0000218 registry file failure

After updating xp media center with fixes from microsoft on my dell xpz 400
my pc boots to a blue screen with error message c0000218 ( registry file
failure )

Can some one help me revover from this, The OS came preloaded and I have no XP
Media Center discs at all.

Have you called Dell? Wish I could be of more help, sorry.

There is a restore partition on your computer and there SHOULD be a
program to burn restore CDs or DVDs but the the restore program will
probably wipe the harddrive and restore the PC to exactly as it was the
day it left the factory so you probably do NOT want to do that.

To access recovery options on your PC, watch the initial boot screen,
it should show what keys to press to do a restore but, again, don't do
that unless you absolutely have to!
