Hi,

My guess is damaged hardware, and you'll need a technician or warranty
support.

When a system shuts down without warning or stop error, it's usually because
a hardware component has overheated or faulted. This is a protection
mechanism built into the hardware to prevent damage to other components. The
error you see at startup or installation is likely because the component is
faulty.

Likely flakey power supply. As components become more powerful and
powerhungry the old power supplies wont do. It needs to be able to deliver
enough power aswell as stable voltages during load.

Perhaps if you load up your favorite hardware monitoring software (that can
monitor voltages) and see if they dip (droop) during heavy load. Try various
ways of loading the system. Prime95 in background while playing new 3D game
on highest settings is a good way to load powersupply.

To check this out i'll replace the hard drive from one in work and see
if this still happens as the system has had the main parition formatted
about 4 times now but will try this out.

as for the power supply i carnt see it beeing that as it handles
virtual machine really well under xp and when im in vista i normally
just use utorrent and thats about it.

Ill monitor temps and voltages to see if anything happens before this.

Update:

Removed Battery and HDD and ran windows xp setup disk and it still
switches off.

really weird as when it was in XP when it was dual boot no errors what
so ever and wouldnt switch off on me.

i think it has to be hardware related now.

Full strip down has to be done to check all fans even tho they look
fine.

any one else got any other suggestions?

Hi,
Am i glad to hear you problem in a parallel way. I also brought this
model laptop and have had over heating problems playing games since the day I
have purchased it. It appears to be a common problem with this laptop model.
playing games over heats and cause the frame rate of games come to a
crippling halt until it cools , then resumes normal frames per second in
games. The graphics hardware is highly suspect. I sent the laptop for repair
under warranty, the engineers could not reproduce the fault because their
graphics tests were too basic. They returned the laptop with out repair and
mis diagnosis. Should I know persist sending the laptop back? Please let me
know if you solve the problem. Laptop switching off without BSOD is
overheating of hardware, pretty sure on this one.
