I spent some hours here, in google, etc... but this problem was only
mentioned on some sites - and solved nowhere.

Actually there are SOME problems, but they are secondary.
The MAIN problem is: I cannot connect to the Internet from MCE!

Reason: can't install cable modem (SpeedTouch 330 USB ADSL -
http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/prod330.htm ).
Error message is similar to the one very favourite here - but it's not about
video/tv card, it's about modem! Driver is not compatible...

It is not a "not tested" alert, that was so familiar in XP.
It is UNCOMPATIBLE!!! message, and it stops installation.

The same things happens to some other devices, but only my modem bothers me
now.

Formatting hard drive, reinstalling "classical" XP - and everything is
allright.
Can my modem really be uncompatible with MCE!? (I can't believe!)

Downloaded newest drivers - it doesn't help...

Also there is a message about RCP (not RPC!), that RCP server is unavailable.

Almost the same issue is described here:

Get a router that *is* MCE compatible and install it between your PC and the
modem, and you'll be rockin'.

Thanks a lot, Mike, I couldn't believe that a _modem_ can be compatible with
XP and uncompatible with XP MCE Uhm.. Thanks!

Only one more question, then - can you recommend any COMPATIBLE router's
model?
Or I shall use wireless one from this list -
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/m...erlisting.mspx ?

Best wishes,
Yuri

Anything listed on that site should be safe as it should have gone through
Windows Logo Testing.

I can't believe it either, I highly doubt it's an MCE issue. More
likely it is an XP SP2 issue (which MCE 2005 is built upon).

Of course you'd be safest going with that list. However, I'm using the
Linksys WRT54G that's not listed with no problems at all. I'm even using it
with an extender with no issues. You should be able to pick one up
relatively cheap.
