A few things to try.
1. Run a repair on Windows Live – Control Panel/Add-Remove or Programs and
Features/Windows Live Essentials/<double click, wait to load and choose
repair)

2. If a Live Calendar (i.e. calendar sync’ed to calendar.live.com for the
same Live ID used to sign on to Windows Live at calendar.live.com and in
WLM).
- Logon to calendar.live.com with that same Live ID, verify all data is
present the logoff
- Close WLM
- Delete the Live ID calendar folder
- Open WLM and signon to Live with the same Live ID and allow it to rebuild
by sync with the web calendar

3. Install the latest version of WLM 2009 (released May 2010) – it
(14.0.8117.0416) did include some patches to make the Calendar more robust
(though the majority of sync-ability improvements was deployed in 2011
version.
- note installing the latest (and last 2009 build/version) will upgrade all
other existing installed applications (no mix and match) – ensure you choose
Custom mode in order to deselect any applications not currently installed.

4. Optionally, post your question in the Windows Live Solution Center.

I dint know I could still get WLM 2009 upgrades. I have stayed away from

See the 'asterisked' item...

The only reason you can obtain an upgrade (for 2009) --> your version
predates the last (ever) 2009 build released (WLE QFE3)

Windows Live Downloads
http://liveunplugged.wordpress.com/2...ive-downloads/
- all links to download on the above link (my blog) are direct from the MSFT
servers
- if you are using 2009 (it might be wise to download the last full version
2009 install file as insurance in the event MSFT removes the files from
their server in the future - i.e. plan ahead)

Windows Live Essentials Application Version(2009) Numbers
http://liveunplugged.wordpress.com/2...rsion-numbers/

Regarding newsgroup posting issues - the changes impacting those were mostly
unique to the 2011 version (not 2009).
- e.g. Not inserting a > for quoted text in nttp newsgroup replies; printing
problems in IE8/9; pre-pending a question ? at the beginning of a reply.

****If you are referring to other nttp issues, please provide info on them
for discussion in this forum before installing 2009 QFE3 since upgrading may
not be prudent until those are understood****

Note: Some of the corrections made caused by other applications (e.g. IE8/9
etc) were only made to the latest 2011 version (QFE2) due to the last 2009
code (QFE3) being frozen upon release in May 2010.

If Messenger is not installed (or using XP and not Vista and Win7) it may be
the reason you have not seen an upgrade request (in Microsoft Update or from
the program itself) since the 2009 QFE3 version was a mandatory upgrade
(primarily applicable/required for Messenger even though some under-the-hood
fixes were included - calendar database robustness). Anyway here's the
article regarding 'mandatory'

Wow thanks for the links Winston. Re the NG issues I was referring to the
ones you describe. But since it only affected 2011, I will update my 2009

Bill,
You're welcome.

Fyi...when running the WLE installer (full or web version), ensure once the
interface loads that you check the 'Custom' option to have the ability to
deselect any items that you don't wish to install. The WLE installer
pre-checks items not currently installed (they, Live, assumes that anything
not installed should be installed)...i.e. its an opt-out process as opposed
to opt-in.
