" Camera settings" problem

Everything works fine w/my MSN messenger 7.0 except when I try to use my
web-cam.
When I click on 'Web-cam settings' from the tools menu,it opens the "Camera
Settings" page.
Under 'Camera selection' on the bottom, where it says "select the camera you
want to use" ,the only available option that shows up in the menu is my
web-cam; MSVIDEO:BrooktreeBt848 Capture Driver.
I highlight that then click "apply".
However, on the top portion it says;

You cannot change your camera settings because your camera is not plugged in
or you are using it in a video conversation with another program.

I know it's plugged in (because I can turn it on) and I know that I'm not
using it in another video conversation.

I also know that it works properly as I'm able to use it in NetMeeting, etc
and am able to get both video and sound via the web-cam. Plus, I always exit
the program when I'm done.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Brent

post somehow.

I have the same problem with my creative card webcam. (msn 7.5, XPsp2). it
works ok in the "audio/ video setup" but not in the actual conversation
window or in the webcam settings window. and I get the same message as you
about it being in use by another program

tried re-installing, mboard usb port/ pci usb card and usb powered hub. same
thing. not fun
Mian

ps: it used to work ok in msn 6
